CINEMA, TRAINING AND FUTURE: CALLS NOW OPEN FOR CASTELLO ERRANTE 2025

APPLICATIONS OPEN UNTIL JULY 10, 2025
Last days to apply for the upcoming edition

There is time until July 10 to apply for the Call aimed at young film professionals from Italy and Latin America.

The project – which has been combining top-level training, international production, and the promotion of local territories for years – returns with an edition that confirms the identity of the residency while expanding its opportunities: an international crew, a screenplay selected by a jury of experts, and a historic Italian village as a set and a meeting point for different visions and languages.

Castello Errante is not just a creative laboratory – it is a bridge between academia and industry, between local heritage and technological innovation, between cinema and sustainability.
Each edition produces short films, builds connections, and creates pathways that often continue well beyond the residency.

For those who already know the project, not much introduction is needed. For those discovering it now, this is a great time to start.

PRESENTATION OF THE NINTH EDITION

7 July 2025, 11:00 AM – Rome

On July 7 at 11:00 AM, the spaces of the Lazio Region and the Roma Lazio Film Commission, located in Via Parigi 1 in Rome, will host the presentation event of the ninth edition of Castello Errante, the International Cinema Residency project that promotes intercultural dialogue between Italy and Latin America. The event, organized in collaboration with IILA – Italo-Latin American International Organization, will be an opportunity to explore the results and future prospects of the residency. Every year, the project involves young filmmakers from all over the world, who train through masterclasses, workshops, and hands-on film production.

Furthermore, during the meeting, the new location that will host the next edition will also be presented: a fascinating village in the Tuscia area, historically linked to Italian cinema.

Speakers: Lorenza Lei, CEO of Roma Lazio Film Commission; Roberto Stabile, Head of Special Projects of the DGCA of the MiC at Cinecittà; Paolo Giuntarelli, Director of Presidency Affairs, Tourism, Cinema, Audiovisual and Sports, Lazio Region; Antonella Cavallari, Secretary General of IILA; Claudia Barattini, Cultural Secretary of IILA; Pietro Nocchi, President of the Province of Viterbo and Mayor of Capranica; Francesco Virga, President of Doc/it – Italian Documentary Filmmakers Association; Corrado Azzolini, President of Confartigianato Nazionale – Cinema e Audiovisivo; Adele Dell’Erario, Director of Castello Errante – International Cinema Residency.

FROM THE SET TO INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS

The first competition selections for the short film
The Last Day of the Bear, shot during the 7th Edition

The short film The Last Day of the Bear, distributed by Sayonara Film, has begun its journey through national and international festivals with selections in two highly stimulating promotional platforms: the Ischia Film Festival, founded in 2003 by Michelangelo Messina, known for its unique setting in the Aragonese Castle of Ischia and its thematic focus on portraying the cultural and social identity of territories through cinema; and Junges Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg Mo&Friese, an international festival dedicated exclusively to short films for children and young audiences aged 4 to 18, which takes place every year in Hamburg alongside the Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg, with a selection of about 70 films from around the world.

These selections are joined by the 17th edition of the Omladinski Film Festival in Sarajevo, the most important short film festival in Southeastern Europe dedicated to young directors, scheduled from July 18 to 25, 2025; and the 11th edition of Minikino Film Week – Bali International Short Film Festival, an international event focused on short films, taking place from September 12 to 19, 2025, with screenings spread across micro-cinemas and pop-up cinemas throughout the island of Bali.

This represents an important recognition of the work carried out during the residency and confirms the effectiveness of the production and training model promoted by Castello Errante. It is a concrete example of the expressive and professional potential generated by the encounter between young authors and crews from different geographical and cultural backgrounds.

The original soundtrack of the short film, composed by Paolo Casali, will soon be available on all streaming platforms. The music, designed to enhance the visual and emotional experience of the film, is published by BNC Music, with mixing and mastering by Carlo Purpura.

NEW PERSPECTIVES AND OPPORTUNITIES
Castello Errante collaborates with film production companies to promote young talents and take part in the Biennale College selection process

In 2025, Castello Errante will support MIR Cinematografica in selecting a project to submit to the Biennale College Cinema International selection process, an initiative of the Venice Film Festival dedicated to emerging filmmakers from all over the world.

To this end, Castello Errante is launching a call for the selection of international micro-budget feature film projects, with original stories and a strong authorial vision, capable of engaging with a global audience and contemporary cinematic languages.
