The Eighth Edition of Castello Errante – International Cinema Residency Comes to a Close

The eighth edition of Castello Errante – International Cinema Residency has officially concluded. This unique initiative continues to stand out as an innovative model of audiovisual training and production. Once again, the project successfully combined creativity, education, and territorial enhancement, involving young professionals from the audiovisual industry of Italy and Latin America.

An Extraordinary Experience in Training and Production

The 2024 edition unfolded in two phases: an initial online training session during which participants attended masterclasses in screenwriting, directing, sound, and cinematography conducted by national and international instructors; and a second in-person phase set in the picturesque village of Montenero Sabino (Rieti). This phase featured contributions from esteemed professionals such as Michelangelo Frammartino, the acclaimed director and screenwriter who held a masterclass in the enchanting halls of Castello Orsini. For the occasion, the castle was transformed into a genuine film set, reaffirming the project’s mission to merge the universality of cinematic language with the rich heritage of Italian territories.

The crew, composed of talents strictly younger than 35 years of age and selected through an international call, produced a short film in Montenero Sabino under the direction of young Chilean filmmaker Luis Vicente Fresno. The project also involved 13 other professionals from Italy and countries such as Cuba, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Panama, Ecuador, and Costa Rica. This international team not only enhanced their skills but also contributed to showcasing the local beauty, creating a cultural and professional exchange experience that embodies the essence of the initiative.

Cultural Impact and International Projection

Castello Errante reaffirms its role as a cultural soft power, fostering collaboration between Italy and Latin America while promoting Italian heritage on a global scale. The initiative represents an innovative model of audiovisual production, capable of generating positive impacts on the cultural and economic fabric of the hosting communities.

The project was accomplished thanks to the support of IILA – Italian-Latin American International Organization, Roma Lazio Film Commission, and the Municipality of Montenero Sabino. It is carried out in collaboration with Red TAL – Unión de los Canales Públicos y Culturales de América Latina, Doc/it – Italian Documentary Filmmakers Association, AANT – Academy of Arts and New Technologies of Rome, and the embassies of Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, Haiti, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Castello Errante: A Cultural Bridge Between Italy and Latin America

Castello Errante continues to establish itself as an essential cultural bridge between Italy and Latin America. Following the success of this edition, the project is already looking ahead to the future. In the coming months, the finalists will work on the post-production of the film created during the residency. At the same time, calls for applications for the new 2025 edition will be published.
